Outlander fans will love this tour theme written by author Diana Gabaldon and will know the story well. The TV series filmed at locations set across Scotland. The main characters, Claire a nurse during World War Two finds herself going back in time to revisit a past life. Where she falls in love with Jamie Fraser a Jacobite clansman of the 1740s. I have put this tour together for the cruise-ship passengers and also for anyone staying in Glasgow making it a fun tour and timetable for all.
We first drive to Linlithgow palace which was the birth palace of Mary Queens of Scots in 1542. Visited by Bonnie Prince Charlie 1745 and It is said that the fountain was made to flow with wine in his honour. But was sadly destroyed like so many places at the time by the soldiers of the King George 1746. However, this is Outlander and Linlithgow palace is the ‘Wentworth’ prison scene of Jamies’ torture and dungeons. Next stop at Blackness castle on the shore of the Firth of Forth sea and on set as ‘Fort William’ and black Jack Randall HQ. Then we will cross over the water using the new built Queensferry bridge which has panoramic viewing. We will then stop for a tasty lunch at a great location. Nearby is another Outlander theme ‘Cranesmuir’ village at Culross to visit. And go back into Glasgow for two more sets which are free to enter and they are must see attractions and city landmarks. The Cathedral was used as the ‘L’Hopital Des Anges in Paris’ and University is where Claire is forced to marry.
