Oban & Kilchurn Castle.
The West is the best! It certainly is, set in the heart of Argyll and is one of the most stunning scenic parts of the entire British isles. The Scottish highlands are without a doubt simply awesome just like namesake Loch Awe. Oban, a popular Port town takes visitors by ferries to the remote West coast isles. Surrounded in beautiful countryside with historic castles including the romantic Kilchurn castle ruin. Stories of clan warfare, treachery and cruel transportation to the new world. Depending upon loyalties to support the rightful King wining or losing. The spoils, especially reaped by the Campbells and their clan chief the Duke of Argyll against the defeated Jacobite clans. Today, there is good local produce especially seafood to eat and try some fish & chips here for lunch. There is also the Oban town single malt whisky distillery offering tours and tastes.
This is a totally awesome and action packed day tour! You will be taking the high road along the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond with short rest stop here. Then we make our way to the ruined Kilchurn castle for short nature trail and go inside so you can look around and some great photos. In Oban, there is a variety of places to eat lunch and most people choose seafood here, especially fish & chips. Sit or take away, depends on the weather. You can visit the Oban whisky distillery for a tour or take the time walking about the town. I can give you the best options and other extra stops as we go. Passing the Connel bridge and expect to see unique Highland coos (cattle) on route.
